US aviation safety regulators proposed temporarily limiting flights at Newark airport to no more than 28 arrivals per hour to reduce delays after a pair of radar and radio outages fueled major disruptions in recent weeks.

Technology and staffing problems have plagued the airport, one of the nation’s busiest hubs. Officials say they are trying to resolve the issues, but concerns remain.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday it plans to announce proposed temporary cuts to flights at Newark after meetings with major U.S. airlines to address congestion impacts. The FAA held three days of one-on-one meetings with the airlines "to find a balance between reducing their operations at the airport and meeting the needs of each individual airline.
